AVEDA INSTITUTE DENVER EARTH MONTH CELEBRATION

As an environmental leader in the beauty industry and around the world, Aveda Institute Denver welcomes Earth Day by celebrating all month long to raise a minimum of $15,000 for its Earth Month partner, Western Resource Advocates (WRA) through various events during the month of April.

Guests will be able to participate in a variety of events beginning with the Institutes second “Walk for Water” to raise awareness and support for water conservation in Colorado and around the globe. The average distance a woman in an underdeveloped country walks to access clean water is four miles. The Walk takes place on April 5 from 9 to 11 am with staff, students and sponsored community partners walking four miles around the metro area.  

On Earth Day, April 22, the Institute will host Services for the Earth in which all revenue generated from salon and spa services this day will be donated to WRA. To book an appointment for the Earth, call 303-567-7500. Advanced reservations recommended. Additional donations will also be accepted.

To complete the celebration, the students will host a Hair and Makeup Show on April 24. The show, Aveda RAW, will feature recycling around the globe and is presented by Aveda Institute Denver, Berenices Salon, Planet Laboratories Salon and Avalon Salon and Day Spa. The show will feature live local music from Cobraconda. Doors open at 6:30 pm with a silent auction and live entertainment by Kajmir Royale. The show begins at 7 pm. Tickets are sold at the event. $25 VIP, $15 seated (limited) and $10 general admission (standing room only).

Throughout the month, while supplies last, Aveda is featuring its limited edition candle, Light the Way, which is made from organic lavender and retails for $12. Aveda Institute Denver is also selling limited edition 2010 Earth Month organic cotton tee shirts for $20 donation.

Aveda Institute Denver was pleased to welcome the Boulder "I Have A Dream" group to tour the Institute and experience the Aveda difference. Our FPs offered our guests mini-makeovers with simple styling, updos, polish change and light makeup finishing touches. Our guests were girls ranging in ages 7 up to 12 and have never had a salon experience before. They were excited to be able to have their hair styled and feel pampered. Thank you to the Nov 09 Intention class and the FPs from the TRS Expression and Harmony phases that jumped in to help assist with the styling. For many of our FPs, this was a first-time experience working with ethnic, textured hair.

Aveda Institute Denver is proud to partner with the "I Have A Dream" groups and will continue to work with the metro-area chapters to instill inspiration and share the importance of education.

Educators Stephanie W and Desiree G volunteered to run a 7K in the Running of the Green event a few weeks ago. All proceeds went to Volunteers of America.

Aveda Institute Denver future professionals took over the stage at the St. Baldrick's Event on Friday, March 19 during the snowstorm that closed the highway for hours. Though the event started late due to the weather, it was a huge success with total funds raised still being counted. Our future professionals: Ramon, Graham, Greg, Tessa, Autumn, Wendy, Erica S, Clarissa, Natasha, Michelle F, and Brittany P each shaved over 10 heads alongside Melinda Cadwallader and a few other cosmetologists that all donated time to help shave the way to fight childhood cancer.

Dale LeMonds, owner of Aveda Institute Denver, Tucson and Provo showed up at the event with no intention to shave his head but ended up allowing our FP, Ramon Corro to shave his head in exchange for Dale shaving Ramon's.

The Institute hosted a cut-a-thon back in February and raised $2,454 for the Cadwallader family. The check was presented to the family during the event.

Tyler Collins, Alicia Parks' 6-year-old son, participated in the event in honor of Delia Cadwallader and raised over $200 on his own by collecting change at Aveda Institute Denver, the Castle Rock Police Department, and from friends and family who donated to his sponsored site on St. Baldrick's Web site. He also inspired his classmates at Flagstone Elementary School to collect change. The entire school is now continuing the momentum by collecting change through the end of the month. Two of his classmates decided to turn in their allowance as a donation and shave their heads as well. This was Tyler's second year participating in the event.

Aveda Institute Denver was honored to be a part of a group of strangers that came together as a community for a common cause.
