Aveda Institute Denver's fourth annual Earth Month Hair & Makeup Show, Aveda RAW (Recycling Around the World) set a record this year with ticket sales and silent auction items totaling $3,770! Ticket sales alone brought in $3,200 with an estimated 350 attendees. The show featured looks inspired by recycling around the world. Glass, plastic, paper and aluminum where a focus for most of the looks which incorporated recycled cans, Aveda products, magazine and newspaper clippings, recycled clothing, and earthy elements like plant life. Partnered salons, Avalon Salon and Day Spa, Berenices, Copperfalls Spa and Salon, and Planet Laboratories joined the show in addition to the Institute's Artistic Leadership Team. The show began with a performance by Kajmir Royale, who generously donated his time for the show. Live music was hosted by Cobraconda one of which, Graham Cheek , is a cosmetology future professional who also featured a model in the show. The closing act was produced by cosmetology educator and hip hop dancer, Katie Lopez who's performance inspired "I can make a difference."

Aveda Institute Denver is proud of the work, dedication, and creativity that came to life by its Future Professionals in cosmetology and spa. It was pleased to be able to also work alongside Avalon, Berenices, Copper Falls and Planet Laboratories salons.

The success of the show was a result of the talent within the Aveda network as well as from our generous sponsors: Mike Downey, CEO Lead Alliance Group, Spencer and Graham of Cobraconda, Katie Lopez, Patagonia, True Love Shoes, Pura Vida, Organixx, Chipotle, Cheba Hut and Pedro's Planet.

Power of a Purse Program Stems From Nationwide Mother’s Day Campaign

March 19, 2010 – This Mother’s Day, in honor of mothers in the Denver area, the 5 local Denver Area Mothers & More Chapters (Boulder County, Denver West, Central Denver, South Metro Denver, Castle Rock/Parker) are collecting purses to distribute to the Haven House.

As a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of mothers, Mothers & More is seeking individuals and businesses willing to donate purses, and possibly items to go into them, in order to ensure that each mother at the Haven House receives the gift of a purse, and all the power and symbolism that goes with it.

Power of a Purse is a Mother's Day Campaign designed by Mothers & More to raise awareness of mothers’ economic issues through the act of collecting new or gently used purses for mothers and women in need. Businesses and individuals interested in donating gently used or new purses or items to go into them can drop them off at the following locations from March 19-April 11 or contact our Mothers & More chapters at popdenvermothersandmore@yahoo.com
